India’s top shuttler HS Prannoy defeated compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat to enter the final of the Australian Open Super 500 badminton tournament. After the victory, he said on Saturday that due to constant experimentation, he was able to achieve success in this season.
The 31-year-old Prannoy, who won the Malaysian Masters Super 500 in May, defeated compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat 21-18, 21-12 to enter the final of the Australia Open Super 500 tournament on Saturday.
Prannoy said, ‘A lot of credit goes to me because I was ready to accept change and try new things. The team that I am working with is really wonderful. He helps me every day during practice. Prannoy was battling injury and other health problems before 2021.
Pranay’s performance was also affected due to this injury but he never stopped trying new things. He said, ‘My trainers Gopi sir, guru, physio, trainer all worked equally hard. So it is the result of team effort. I hope we can find solutions for each tournament and move forward.
World number nine Indian HS Prannoy will take on world number 24 Weng Hong Yang of China in the summit clash on Sunday. Interestingly, Weng is the same opponent whom Prannoy defeated in the final of the Malaysia Masters in May to win his first individual title in six years.
Prannoy looked in fine touch throughout the week and the highlight was his stunning win over world number two and top seed Anthony Ginting in the quarterfinals. On Saturday, Prannoy once again showed his ability to spot errors in his young opponent, who is known for his quick hand and foot speed and quick net play.
Starting on a positive note, Rajawat grabbed an early 2-0 lead with her serve. But Prannoy slowly started building up his points and kept forcing his young challenger to make mistakes. Due to which he went ahead with four consecutive points.
