Colombo. India opener Shubhman Gill (759 points) has achieved a career-best second position and is now behind only Pakistan captain Babar Azam (863 points) in the ICC men’s ODI rankings.

Gill, who has scored 154 runs and scored two half-centuries in the ongoing Asia Cup. Now he has reached second place in the ICC ODI rankings.

Also, he is the highest ranked among the three players of India, who are now in the top-10 in the ranking of batsmen in ODI and this has happened for the first time since January 2019.

Captain Rohit Sharma and charismatic batsman Virat Kohli have gained two places each and are at eighth and ninth position respectively.

Sharma, Kohli and veteran left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan were the three batsmen in the top 10 in that instance more than four years ago, while all three were also in the top six of the batting table in September 2018.

Sharma also scored a half-century against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, while Kohli has moved up in the rankings thanks to his unbeaten 122 against Pakistan.

The Indian batting pair of KL Rahul (up 10 places to 37th) and Ishan Kishan (up two places to 22nd) have also made significant improvements in the rankings.

Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved up five places to seventh position in the ODI bowler rankings after taking nine wickets in two matches of the Asia Cup.

India’s fast bowling leader Jasprit Bumrah, also returning to ODIs, is up eight places to 27th while all-rounder Hardik Pandya (up 21 places to 56th) is up eight places in the bowlers’ rankings and is also up four places to sixth among all-rounders.

Pakistan also has three batsmen in the top 10 of the batsmen’s rankings. In which Babar Azam is on top and has a lead of more than 100 rating points over Gill.

Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman are ranked fifth and tenth respectively.

In South Africa, captain Temba Bavuma has moved closer to the top 10 after scoring three centuries and two half-centuries in his last eight ODI matches. He has moved up 21 places to 11th while his previous best was 25th.

Australian players Davis Warner (up one place to fourth), Travis Head (up six places to 20th) and Marnus Labuschagne (up 24 places to 45th) also made significant progress in the batsmen’s rankings.

New Zealand’s left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult is second among bowlers, while Australia’s leg spinner Adam Zampa is in the top five of the bowling rankings for the first time after taking four wickets in the second match against South Africa.

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has moved up eight places to 21st along with his teammate Naseem Shah (up 11 places to 51st), while South African spinners Keshav Maharaj (up 10 places to 25th) and Tabraiz Shamsi (up 10 places) 25th place above). Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood (up 15 places to 29th) is among the bowlers who have advanced in the rankings.
