New Delhi: Day 1 of the third Test at Indore’s Holkar Stadium witnessed tremendous drama in the opening hour as India lost five wickets for just 45 runs after electing to bat. His first innings was reduced to 109 runs. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma got two lifelines in the opening over of the match against Mitchell Starc as the umpire didn’t give him out and neither did the Australian team take DRS.
After this the fall of wickets continued and Team India’s first innings was reduced to 109 runs. During this, former Australia batsman Matthew Hayden, who was doing commentary, strongly criticized the pitch. On this, Ravi Shastri gave him such an answer that he stopped speaking. Hadden came down heavily, saying that nowhere in the world would a spinner come to bowl the sixth over of a Test match on the first day.
He said – there is some peace in the Indian camp. He was very successful in the last two Tests, but is showing average mode here. That’s why I have a problem with these situations, because there is no place in the world where a spin bowler can come to bowl in the sixth over. Continuing his talk, he further said – Here in Indore the average spin is 4.8 degrees. This is a big turn. This is the kind of turn you expect on the third day in a normal Test. You have to give chances to the batsmen. Ravi (Shastri) judge your players on the basis of their performance in Test match cricket. Day 1 and day 2 should be for batting.
Commenting on this, Shastri gave such a reply in two words that Hayden became silent. Shastri said, ‘Domestic situation. However, after pausing for a while, Shastri admitted that the conditions were tough for the players. He further said – It is a bit more than domestic conditions. Cricket is going to be difficult here.
