Chennai: Indian batsmen will have to be at their best to face the challenge of Australian pacers led by Mitchell Starc in the third ODI on Wednesday. Everyone’s eyes would be on Suryakumar Yadav. If Starc has been a headache for the batsmen, then Mitchell Marsh has given sleepless nights to the Indian bowlers. He has hit about a dozen sixes in two matches. The very first agenda of the Indian team will be to overcome the ‘double Mitchell challenge’. The series is currently tied at 1-1. The third and deciding match of the series will be played in Chennai on Wednesday.

Indian batting failed

The star quartet of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav will have to use all their experience to take on Starc. With the change in technique, Indian batsmen will have to play with mental strength. Limited overs cricket in India is played on flat pitches that do not require a lot of footwork. Playing on the front foot, the batsman can perform well. But Stark changed all the equations. His ball is either hitting the middle stump or towards leg middle.

Indian batsmen failed to fathom his balls in the last two matches. While Starc was helped by the pitch in Mumbai, there was moisture in the air due to Visakhapatnam being on the seashore. Chepauk is hosting an international match after a long time and all eyes are on the new pitch. Chepauk is generally a pitch that favors slow bowlers and scoring runs in the middle overs is difficult. This time, however, the pitch has been made keeping in mind the strengths of Chennai Super Kings and the fast bowlers may get help in the beginning. In the last two matches, Suryakumar Yadav could not even open the account while he was running in tremendous form in T20 cricket. Shreyas Iyer is not in the team and Surya has this golden opportunity to cement his place in the team for the ODI World Cup but he is not able to do justice to it.

Captain Rohit had said after the last match, ‘We have seen that he can play well in ODIs as well. He knows it too. I believe that players of potential should never feel that they are not getting enough opportunities. Surya could not walk in the last two matches but he needs to be given frequent chances so that he feels comfortable.

Indian bowlers had to bowl only 47 overs (36 and 11) in the last two matches. Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj would like Rohit to bowl after winning the toss. It remains to be seen whether Shardul Thakur or Jaydev Unadkat get a chance or both Kuldeep Yadav and Akshar Patel play alongside Ravindra Jadeja.

Both teams are like this

India: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik , Shardul Thakur, Akshar Patel, Jaydev Unadkat.

Australia:
