Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja’s four-wicket haul in the Australian first innings helped him cross 500 international wickets. He is the seventh Indian bowler to cross that milestone after Kumble, Harbhajan, Ashwin, Kapil, Zaheer Khan (597) and Javagal Srinath (551). Jadeja has currently taken 503 international wickets in 298 matches.
Muralitharan leads the global list
At the international level, Ashwin is now close to Dale Steyn’s record of 699 wickets. He is currently ranked 17th in the list of highest international wicket takers. Sri Lankan great spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is number one in the list with 1347 wickets. Australia’s spin great late Shane Warne is second with 1001 wickets, while veteran England fast bowler James Anderson is third with 972 wickets. Kumble’s 956 wickets puts him fourth on the list, while former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath rounds out the top five with 949 wickets.
