Smith, who is one of the top batsmen in the world in Tests, was asked if the Australian team is overthinking about Ashwin, he said, ‘We have practiced against many off-spinners and Mahesh is one of them. He bowls in the style of Ashwin. We are not overthinking things. Ashwin is a great bowler but we have a plan to counter him.
The former Australia captain said that he has seen the pitch and one end of it is very dry. He said, ‘The pitch is very dry. I believe the spinners will get help on this one. Left-arm spinners in particular will be effective against our left-handed batsmen. One area of the pitch is completely dry.
Smith said, ‘His team practiced well in Bengaluru and are now practicing here. Players are finding rhythm. I think the pitch will be very slow but I am not sure about it. Smith, however, made it clear that all-rounder Cameron Green is not in a position to play the first Test. He hasn’t faced fast bowlers yet, so there is little chance of him playing in the first Test.
