New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): England’s left-arm spinner Jack Leach has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the Test series against India due to a left knee injury. Jack Leach suffered an injury to his left knee while fielding on the first day of the opening match of the Test series in Hyderabad, where he was injured while blocking a four.
Leach’s injury troubled him a lot on the second day of the match. Therefore, he bowled 26 overs in the first innings but Leach managed to bowl 10 overs in the second innings. After which he failed to recover in time for the second Test. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, in which England lost by 106 runs.
It was expected that Leach would be fit in the ten-day break and would be available for England’s third Test against India starting on 15 February in Rajkot. But with the team on a break in Abu Dhabi, it has been decided that Leach will not be able to play any part for England in the remaining three Test matches. This is a huge blow for England, as Leach has only recently returned from a stress fracture in his back, which ruled him out of last year’s Ashes at home.
He will fly home in the next 24 hours from Abu Dhabi, where the England team is based ahead of the third Test in Rajkot starting on Thursday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement. Leach will work closely with the England and Somerset medical teams regarding his rehabilitation. England will not call any replacement.
England are scheduled to reach India on Monday and begin their practice in Rajkot on Tuesday ahead of the third Test, which will also be captain Ben Stokes’ 100th appearance in this format.
