Sourav said, ‘You don’t get much chance to bowl to Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. He hardly plays in Ranji Trophy or other domestic matches due to national commitments. He said, ‘This was an opportunity for me. This provides an opportunity to take a closer look and study them. It was a great experience to bowl to some top level players and interact with them. Got to learn a lot from him.
Got inspiration from Bishan Singh Bedi
In the Indian cricket system, usually when players reach the age of 30, they start giving up the dream of making their debut for the national team, but Saurabh, who idolizes late Bishan Singh Bedi, never wants to give up. He said, ‘Bishan sir used to tell me to keep working hard and be mentally prepared to give your best whenever you get a chance.’ He said, ‘I never really keep myself away from the nets or bowling.’
Saurav Kumar can contribute in batting also
He regularly attended Bedi’s summer camps in Delhi to hone his skills. Former India left-arm bowler and current Uttar Pradesh coach Sunil Joshi told PTI, ‘Saurabh (Kumar) is a brilliant cricketer, understands the game and the situation very well. He knows how to adjust his line and length. He has a lot of experience of bowling in these conditions and against some good players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Mayank Agarwal in domestic cricket. Now Saurabh has also improved his batting and he can contribute with the bat in the lower order also.
