Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill batted brilliantly in the third and final ODI against New Zealand in Indore. Both the openers made many records by scoring centuries.
There was a partnership of 212 runs between Rohit Sharma (101 runs) and Shubman Gill (112 runs). This is the biggest partnership for the first wicket by any team against New Zealand. Earlier Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir shared a partnership of 201 runs in 2009.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma completed his 30th ODI century. He equaled former Australia captain Ricky Ponting’s record of 30 ODI centuries. In the case of ODI centuries, Rohit has reached number three after Sachin Tendulkar (49) and Virat Kohli (46).
Captain Rohit Sharma has scored a century in ODIs after three years. To reach the century, he hit 9 fours and 6 sixes. Rohit completed his half-century in just 41 balls and scored the next 50 runs in 42 balls. The last time Rohit scored against Australia in Bangalore in January 2020.
Young opener Shubman Gill has scored the fourth ODI century of his career. Today, by playing an innings of 112 runs, he has equaled Pakistan captain Babar Azam. He equaled Babar’s record by scoring 360 runs in three ODIs of a series.
The 23-year-old Shubman Gill is only the second batsman in the history of the game to score more than 350 runs in a 3-match ODI series. Gill scored 112 runs off 78 balls. Hit 13 fours and 5 sixes in his innings.
