The last ODI century from Rohit’s bat came in 2020 against Australia. When a reporter asked him about the three-year gap between his 29th and 30th centuries in the 50-over format, he got angry. After giving an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness, Rohit said, “I have played only 12 ODIs in three years, so three years seems like a lot.”
Rohit hit out at the broadcaster when the journalist got defensive saying that he was not criticizing him with that question. The captain said, ‘You guys should know what is happening. I know it was shown on TV, sometimes, you (broadcasters) need to show the right things as well. Last year we did not play ODI cricket. We focused a lot on T20 cricket. So sometimes people should keep things in mind…Broadcasters should show the right things.
Rohit did not stop at this. In response to another question, taunting the journalist said, ‘What kind of comeback? I did not understand. Oh, someone must have told you see out of the last three years, eight months (in 2020) all the matches were at home. We only played T20 cricket nowadays nobody is batting better than Suryakumar Yadav in T20 cricket, he has scored 2 hundreds, and I don’t think anyone else has scored a hundred. As far as Tests are concerned, I have played only two matches against Sri Lanka (last year), then got injured in the middle, so, you see all this before making your news.
