Rituraj Gaikwad out
Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the T20 series against New Zealand. He has pain in his wrist and due to this he will not be able to play against New Zealand. The 25-year-old batsman has reached the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for his injury and subsequent rehab. This has been claimed in the report of Cricbuzz.
Gaikwad last appeared for Maharashtra in a Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad. He scored 8 and 0 in that match and later informed the BCCI about the condition of his wrist. This is the second time that Gaikwad has had trouble with his wrist. He missed the game against Sri Lanka last year due to a similar injury. Last year, he could not even play in the home ODI against the West Indies after coming to the Kovid test positive.
Still three openers in the team
Even after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s ouster, the Indian team has three openers. Apart from wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, there is also Prithvi Shaw. Mumbai’s explosive batsman Prithvi has returned to Team India from this series. He played the last match for India in July 2021. For this reason, hardly BCCI will announce the replacement of Rituraj.
