India and Pakistan in the same group of Women T20 Asia Cup

New Delhi. Defending champions India have been drawn in Group A along with Pakistan, UAE and Nepal in the upcoming Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka from July 19 to 28. The edition of the tournament will feature eight teams, one more than the previous edition in 2022, reflecting the growing interest and participation in women’s cricket across Asia.

As per the schedule announced by the Asian Cricket Council here on Tuesday, Group B will include Bangladesh, hosts Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Thailand.

ACC President Jay Shah said in a statement that the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 underlines the ACC’s commitment to promoting women’s cricket in the region. We are excited to see increased participation and competition between teams, which reflects the growing popularity and importance of women’s cricket.

Shah further said that this expansion, from six teams in 2018 to seven teams in 2022 and now eight teams, is a testament to our commitment to the growing talent pool in the women’s game and Asian cricket. We look forward to an exciting tournament that will inspire both players and fans.

As per the schedule, Pakistan will face Nepal while India will face United Arab Emirates in the two matches to be held on July 19, the opening day of the event. India will play Pakistan on July 21 while Bangladesh will face Malaysia and Sri Lanka will face Thailand in the final league matches on July 24.

ACC said on Tuesday that the semi-finals will be played on July 26 while the final will be held on July 28.
