Changsha:The Indian women’s tennis team defeated South Korea 2-1 in the Billie Jean King Cup 2024 Asia/Oceania Group One match on Friday. Rutuja Bhosale won the singles match at Moon Island Clay Park in Changsha, China today. Whereas the pair of Ankita Raina and Prarthana Thombare won the doubles match.
Bhosale registered a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win in one hour and five minutes. Bhosale dominated the match early on by winning five consecutive games in the first set. Ankita Raina partnered with Prarthana Thombare to win the doubles match against Dabin Kim and Sohyun Park 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 33 minutes. The 2-1 win over South Korea is India’s third win in Asia/Oceania Group One.
India defeated Pacific Oceania 3-0 in their opening match and defeated Chinese Taipei 2-1 on Thursday. India are second in Pool A with three wins and one loss. India will have to finish in the top two to qualify for the play-offs. The Indian tennis team will face New Zealand in its final group match on Saturday. New Zealand is fourth in the table with two wins and two losses.
