India has the upper hand in Davis Cup against Morocco, Bopanna will bid farewell

The Davis Cup World Group 2 match against Morocco will not be difficult for India but this is especially so because after almost 21 years, Rohan Bopanna’s Davis Cup career is going to come to an end. The spectator capacity of the stadium in Lucknow is 1300 but in Bengaluru it can accommodate 6500 spectators. Out of 32 matches played since his debut in 2002, Bopanna has won 22 of which ten are singles. AITA felicitated Bopanna at a special function on Thursday night. Many of his friends and family have come to watch this match. India’s number one singles player Sumit Nagal is in form. He has come from playing the Challenger tournament final in Austria which was his third final this season.

Shashi Mukund will make his debut for India. He was also given a place in the team against Pakistan in 2019 but he withdrew his name due to injury. Digvijay Pratap Singh is also in the team who can be fielded in the match as a formality. India can face challenge from only one player in the Moroccan team, Eliot Benchetrit. He has defeated players included in the top 100 and has also played Grand Slams. Morocco’s other singles player is 20-year-old Yassin D, ranked 557. Adam Mundir is ranked 779 while Walid Ahouda and Younis Lalami are not even in the top 1000.
