India Open Final. Satwik-Chirag pair lost in doubles final, Korean pair won the title

India’s world number two pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out of the India Open Super 750 against South Korea’s world champion pair of Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae in the men’s doubles final here on Sunday despite winning the first game. Had to be content with becoming runner-up in badminton tournament. The Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold medalist pair of Satwik and Chirag suffered a 21-15, 11-21, 18-21 defeat in the final against world number three pair of Kang and Seo in one hour and five minutes. Due to which the pair was successful in winning the India Open title for the second time.
After a good start against world champions Kang and Seo, the Indian pair lost momentum and made frequent unforced errors, which cost the host nation the title. There was a tough competition between the pair of India and Korea from the very beginning. Satwik and Chirag lost the first three points as they failed to get the shuttle to cross the net. Satwik made a lot of mistakes in the beginning which gave some easy points to Kang and Seo. The pace of the game was very fast so the margin of error was very less. Satwik and Chirag remained ahead 11-9 till the break. After the break, the Indian pair made the score 13-9 and then maintained the lead to 18-13. Chirag’s smash helped the Indian pair gain six game points.
The Korean pair saved a point but then failed to send back Chirag’s shot as Satwik-Chirag won the first game 21-15 in 18 minutes. In the second game, the Korean pair made a better start and took a 5-1 lead. Chirag scored two points with his stormy smash to make the score 4-6. Satwik and Chirag meanwhile hit some shots outside and on the net due to which Kang and Seo were able to take a strong lead of 11-5 till the break. Satwik and Chirag were unable to curb the mistakes and the Korean pair scored nine consecutive points to take the score to 16-5 and then easily won the game to level the match at 1-1. In the third and deciding game too, Satwik and Chirag made consecutive unforced errors which gave Kang and Seo a 6-3 lead.
Satwik and Chirag hit many shots in and out of the net while the opponents could not even push the pair back from the net. The Korean pair led 11-6 at the break. The Indian pair made a comeback after the break and made the score 10-12 but the Korean pair was successful in maintaining the lead by continuously scoring points. The Korean pair earned two championship points when Satwik hit the shuttle wide and then Chirag hit a shot over the net to clinch the title for Kang and Seo.
