Hangzhou. The Indian recurve men’s team comprising Atanu Das, Tushar Shelke and Dheeraj Bommadevara secured a place in the final against South Korea with a 5-3 win in the semi-final against Bangladesh here on Friday.
For the first time in the history of Asian Games, India will target gold in this event.
Seeded 3rd, India started as favorites against Bangladesh, who were seeded 7th after qualification. India took the early lead by scoring an impressive 58 in the first set as against Bangladesh’s 51.
Bangladesh continued to roam in red outside the yellow circle (10/9). India’s shooting was quite solid with Dheeraj scoring four 10s, a 9 and an 8, which was more than enough as India needed just one more point (or two) to reach the final.
However, Bangladesh made a spectacular comeback in the third set with four 10s and two 9s to score a total of 58 and take the set after trailing India by 56 points.
A 57–57 draw in the final set was enough to seal the deal for India as they entered the final of the event for the first time in history.
