India vs Australia Womens Cricket: Australia reaches highest score in ODI, wins over India by 190 runs

Phoebe Litchfield and captain Alyssa Healy scored 189 runs for the opening wicket as Australian women posted their highest score of 338/7 against India before bowling out the hosts for 148 runs in the third and final ODI at the Wankhede Stadium here on Tuesday. Clean swept the match 3-0 and won by 190 runs.

Phoebe’s stylish 119 and Healy’s brilliant 82 took Australia to a strong score of 338 for 7 and set a new record for the highest total against India in this format, surpassing the previous record of 332 for 7 in 2018. Broke.

In reply, scoreboard pressure as well as good bowling from Georgia Wareham (3-23), Annabel Sutherland (2-9), Alana King (2-21) and Megan Scutt (2-23) allowed the Indian innings to progress. Failed. The hosts were all out for 148 in 32.4 overs, one of their worst defeats for the ODI World Cup winners.

Yastika Bhatia (6) and Smriti Mandhana (29) added 32 runs for the first wicket, but both of them were out in quick succession. Richa Ghosh, who scored 96 in the second ODI as India lost by three runs, was out for 19 and India was reduced to 57/3.

Jemimah Rodrigues (25) and Deepti Sharma (25 not out) propelled the score, but six batsmen failed to even reach double figures as the hosts had a poor performance with the bat. Annabel Sutherland took two wickets in consecutive balls in the 30th over, taking India’s score to 135/9.

Young sensation Phoebe scored a brilliant 119 off 125 balls, a stark contrast to her previous innings of 63 in the second match. His second ODI century was a masterclass in accuracy, hitting several fours including 16 fours and a six. The Healy-Litchfield partnership set the conditions for 29 overs, maintaining a run-rate of around six, as Australia set a total of 350 at one stage.

Taking over the captaincy from Meg Lanning on this tour, Healy made a positive start with her first half-century as full-time captain. Her inning of 82 not only rejuvenated her batting form after a poor 2023 season, but also etched her name in history as the highest individual score for a wicketkeeper-captain in women’s ODIs.

Healy-Litchfield’s 189-run partnership also created history in 2021, surpassing the 169-run partnership of South African women Liezel Lee and Laura Wolvaardt. The dynamic duo targeted debutant left-arm spinner Mannat Kashyap, knocking out his confidence early in the innings. Kashyap, who replaced all-rounder Sneh Rana, had to bear the brunt of Healy and Litchfield’s attack and conceded 23 runs in his first two overs.

The Indian bowling attack, led by Shreyanka Patil, made a strong comeback by taking important wickets. Patil displayed pace and versatility in tight lines, taking 3 for 57 in just his second ODI. From a mammoth score of 189 without loss, Australia collapsed to 223 for 4, a display of the resilience of the Indian bowlers. Despite the setbacks, Australia managed to cross the 300-run mark in the death overs thanks to impressive cameos from Ashley Gardner, Georgia Wareham and Alana King. King, in particular, punished Vastrakar with two sixes and a four in the final over and remained unbeaten on 26 off 14.

However, India’s fielding problems continued, with two more catches dropped taking the number of catches in the series to ten.
