Indian archers won two bronze medals at the Asian Championships here on Wednesday while ensuring four other medals by reaching the finals of their respective events. On the day when world champion Aditi Swamy lost to Bona Ector in the pre-quarterfinals, Jyothi Surekha Venam and Preneet Kaur secured the first two spots for India by making it to the final of the compound women’s individual category. In the semi-finals, Parneet defeated Victoria Lien of Kazakhstan 147-145, while Jyoti defeated Huang Ai-Jou of Chinese Taipei 148-145.
The top-seeded compound women’s team of Aditi, Jyoti and Parneet defeated hosts Thailand 228-217 in a one-sided semi-final to reach the final where they will face third-seeded Chinese Taipei. Apart from this, India also made it to the finals of the compound mixed team event. The team of Aditi and Priyansh defeated Adele Zekshenbinova and Andrey Tyutyun of Kazakhstan 157-155 in the semi-finals. They will face Thailand in the final. The Indian compound men’s team of Abhishek Verma, Prathamesh Phuge and Priyansh won the bronze medal after winning the shootoff over Chinese Taipei.
Only Verma remains in the race for a medal in the men’s compound individual category. He will face South Korea’s Joo Jehoon in the bronze medal match. In the recurve category, only the women’s team is left in the race for a medal. It will compete with Chinese Taipei for the bronze medal. The fifth-seeded Indian team of Ankita Bhakt, Bhajan Kaur and Tisha Punia lost to South Korea in the semi-finals. The second-seeded Indian men’s recurve team of Dheeraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Praveen Jadhav lost to Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals.
