Indian badminton player Raksha Kandasamy continued her brilliant performance to win the Italian junior singles title by defeating compatriot Ananya Agarwal 21-14, 21-12 in the final. Raksha performed brilliantly in the tournament held from 23 to 25 February in Milan, Italy and won the title without losing a single game in the draw of 64 players.
In the semi-finals too, Raksha had defeated compatriot Indian Prakriti Bharat by 21-10, 21-8 in a one-sided match, while in the quarter-finals she had defeated Anja Blazina of Slovenia by 21-9, 21-14. “This win is really inspiring and I am really happy with the way my game has improved in the last few months,” said Raksha, who won a silver medal at the All England Junior Open Championships last year.
“This performance is really encouraging and I am looking forward to competing in many more tournaments in Europe this year,” she said. Raksha, a 17-year-old badminton player from Mumbai, studies in class 11. She will remain in Europe to compete in a few more tournaments with an aim to make it to the World Juniors.
