New Delhi: The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced the nine-member Indian team for the first World Qualification Tournament. Six-time Asian champion Shiv Thapa and 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Jasmine along with seven other boxers will be in action in Busto Arsizio, Italy on February 29. They will compete in the Paris Olympic Games 2024 Qualification Tournament to be held from March 7 to March 12.

Apart from Thapa (63.5kg) and Jasmine (60kg), youth world champion Ankushita Boro (66kg), defending national champion Lakshya Chahar (80kg), Sanjeet Kumar (92kg), 2022 Asian Games bronze medalist Narendra Berwal (+92 kg), and 2023 World Championship bronze medalists Mohammad Hussamuddin (57 kg), Deepak Bhoria (51 kg), and Nishant Dev (71 kg) have also been included as they qualify for Paris in their respective categories. Will compete for 2024 quota.

According to the report, the players have been selected after a comprehensive evaluation process conducted by the High Performance Unit based on various performance parameters.
Hemant Kumar Kalita, Secretary General, Boxing Federation of India, said, “Our aim is to increase India’s participation at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 and to achieve this we have undertaken a thorough and careful selection process for the first World Qualification Tournament The High Performance Team selected the boxers based on a detailed evaluation process and points awarded to the boxers.
