Indian hockey team announced for South Africa tour, Harmanpreet to take charge of captaincy

Hockey India has announced India’s 26-member team for the four-nation tournament to be held in South Africa from January 22, in which young players who have performed well at the junior level have also got a chance. In this tournament, which is considered important for the preparation of Paris Olympics, Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist India will face France, Netherlands and host South Africa.
The command of the team will be in the hands of Harmanpreet Singh while Hardik Singh, who won the FIH Player of the Year award, will be the vice-captain. Young Arijit Singh Hundal and Bobby Singh Dhami, who have performed brilliantly at the junior level, will play at the senior level for the first time. In goalkeeping, Pawan has been given a chance along with Krishan Pathak and PR Sreejesh. Experienced midfielder Manpreet Singh, who was on a break since the last tournament, has also returned.
Head coach Craig Fulton said about this tour, “We are very excited to start the Olympic season with the tour of South Africa where we will get a chance to play against the best teams.” He said, “We chose a big team.” This is so that all the players can get a chance and I can see everyone playing in match conditions before the FIH Pro League.
