Valencia (Uttam Hindu News): The Indian men’s hockey team lost 0-1 to Spain in their first match of the five-nation tournament Valencia 2023 on Friday. The only goal of the match was scored by Spain’s Alvaro Iglesias in the 29th minute. In the first quarter, both the teams got one penalty corner each but neither managed to score a goal.

In the second quarter, Spain attacked and earned a penalty corner, although it was saved by Krishna Pathak. The pressure on India was clearly visible. He received a green card and Spain immediately took advantage of the opportunity. Alvaro Iglesias breached India’s defense and scored a goal to give Spain the lead.

In the third quarter, there was a tough competition between both the teams to score the next goal but neither team could score. India earned two penalty corners in search of an equalizer in the last quarter, however, Spain saved both. The Indian team will face Belgium on Saturday.
