Indian men’s table tennis team defeated by South Korea in World Championship

India suffered its second consecutive defeat at the World Table Tennis Team Championships when the men’s team lost 0-3 to hosts South Korea here on Monday. Experienced Sharath Kamal, defending national champion Harmeet Desai and G Sathiyan lost their singles matches as India faced a one-sided defeat in their third group stage match against third-seeded Korea.
India’s top player Harmeet, ranked 67th in the world, suffered a 4-11, 10-12, 8-11 defeat against world number 14 Jang Woojin. After this, Sathiyan lost to world number 16 Lim Jonghoon 5-11, 7-11, 7-11, leaving India 0-2 down.
Sharath won the second game against Lee San Su but failed to maintain the momentum and lost 9-11, 11-8, 6-11, 5-11. After winning the opening match against Chile, the Indian team lost 1-3 to Poland but despite two losses, India is second in Group Three after Korea. Indian women’s team will face Uzbekistan on Monday itself.
