India’s first batch leaves for London for World Test Championship final

New Delhi | The first batch of Indian players along with support staff left for London in the early hours of Tuesday to play the World Test Championship final against Australia. The matches will be played at The Oval from June 7-11. The Indian team going to London is leaving in separate groups and for the WTC final the entire team will reach London by May 30 after the IPL final.
The first batch has players like Akshar Patel, Shardul Thakur. Seniors Virat Kohli and R Ashwin, whose teams Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals are also out of the IPL, will leave later, most probably on May 24.
Umesh Yadav, whose team Kolkata Knight Riders is also out of IPL, can also reach England later.
Shardul, who left for London, posted a picture of himself on Instagram.
As per a report in Cricbuzz, the original plan was to send the first batch soon after the IPL league stage. However, some players have requested the BCCI to allow them to leave later.
A BCCI official said, there will be a batch every day till May 30.
Meanwhile, Jaydev Unadkat, who is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for a shoulder injury, is expected to be fit for the WTC final and may leave after May 27.
Pacer Mukesh Kumar will be part of the first batch and the other two, Rituraj Gaikwad and Suryakumar Yadav will go after the IPL matches.
