IOA forms 3-member committee to monitor cases of suspended WFI

New Delhi. Following the suspension of the newly elected administration of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday formed a three-member ad-hoc committee which has been tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the WFI.
According to reports, the committee will be headed by Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, who holds the post of president in Wushu Association of India. The other two members include hockey Olympian MM Somaya and former international badminton player Manjusha Kanwar.
The Sports Ministry suspended the new Sanjay Singh-led WFI body over the announcement of holding the U-15 and U-20 national championships three days after the elections and asked the IOA to set up a temporary panel to oversee the running of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Had asked for.
On 21 December, the day Singh assumed the role of WFI president, he announced that the national trials for wrestling in the under-15 and under-20 categories would be held in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh before the end of the year.
“This announcement has been made hastily, without adequate notice to the wrestlers who are scheduled to participate in the said national competitions and without adhering to the provisions of the WFI Constitution,” the ministry had said in its statement.
