New Delhi/Kolkata: With the increase in production and sales of electric vehicles in India, the need and demand for lithium ion batteries and battery swapping stations has increased. It is reported that the public sector petroleum company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has opened its first battery swapping station for electric vehicles in Kolkata. At the same time, there is another news that TDK, the company making equipment for Apple’s iPhone, will establish itself in Manesar, Haryana for the manufacturing of lithium ion batteries.

Swapping station opened in Kolkata’s New Town in collaboration with Sun Mobility

IOC said in a statement that the battery swapping station has been started at the petrol pump located in New Town, Kolkata. It has been established in collaboration with Sun Mobility. By visiting this station, electric vehicle drivers can get a fully charged battery instead of a discharged battery. Company Director (Marketing) V Satish Kumar said that battery swapping technology provides an important opportunity for the promotion of sustainable electric transportation solutions. It is expected that this station will play an important role in the adoption of electric vehicles in Eastern India.

Battery swapping stations will open at IOC petrol pumps

He said that in the coming days, Indian Oil in collaboration with Sun Mobility will set up battery swapping stations at its petrol pumps. Sun Mobility Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anant Badjatya said that setting up stations providing battery replacement facilities will help in increasing the life of electric vehicles.

TDK will make lithium ion batteries in Manesar, Haryana

On the other hand, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology (IT) Rajiv Chandrashekhar has said that TDK, the company making equipment for Apple’s iPhone, will set up a factory to make its lithium-ion batteries in Manesar, Haryana. A source said that the Japanese company will set up this factory in a phased manner with an investment of Rs 6,000-7,000 crore. Lithium-ion batteries will be made in it and when operated at full capacity, it will provide employment to 7,000-8,000 people.

The factory will be built on 180 acres

Chandrashekhar wrote on Soshan Media Forum The batteries used in iPhones made in India will be made here. This will create thousands of new jobs and increase domestic value addition. Local production of lithium-ion batteries will increase local value addition to Apple products.
