The Indian Premier League 2023 had been nothing short of a roller coaster ride for both batsmen and bowlers. In a thrilling final, Chennai Super Kings won their fifth IPL title by defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets.

The 16th edition saw many records broken, including the most 200-plus totals, the highest number of sixes, and the most centuries in a single edition. While some highly valued players like Punjab Kings’ Sam Curran failed to live up to expectations, young talents such as Yashasvi Jaiswal from Rajasthan Royals and Shubman Gill from runner-up team Gujarat Titans have impressed with their exceptional performances.

Throughout the history of the IPL since its inception in 2008, the players who have scored the most runs during the season have been awarded the prestigious Orange Cap. This year, Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami claimed the Purple cap with 28 wickets, while Gill won the Orange cap, scoring 890 runs. Orange Cap: Winners and contenders
During the initial part of this season, Faf du Plessis of the Royal Challengers Bangalore leads the pack. Despite losing his grasp on the coveted Orange Cap, du Plessis managed to win an award for the most sixes and was recorded to hit the longest six of the season at 115 metres. Tailing him is Gill for most fours.

With Gill surpassing du Plessis’ runs, the 2023 season’s Orange Cap returned to its home ground. English cricketer Jos Buttler secured last year’s Orange Cap with his 863 runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was the last Indian player to get the award in 2021. He made his debut and showed his immense talent by opening the innings alongside du Plessis. He scored 635 runs, which helped the Chennai Super Kings win the tournament.
Purple Cap: Winners and contenders
This season, Shami had always been leading the league as the highest wicket-taker before finally winning the title. However, this season has a lot of impressive performances.

Another standout performer from the Gujarat Titans was Rashid Khan, who ended up third in the wicket-taking chart with 27 dismissals to his name. He’s only a rank below his teammate, Mohit Sharma, who secured second place.

Yuzvendra Chahal of the Rajasthan Royals had quite the lead during the season, claiming 21 wickets across 14 matches. However, his team, unfortunately, failed to secure a place in the IPL 2023 playoffs – cutting off the impressive run.

Last season, Harshal Patel, a pacer from the RCB, emerged as the recipient of the prestigious Purple Cap. Patel’s exceptional performance led to a staggering 32 wickets, equaling the record set by Bravo in 2013 for the most wickets claimed in a single IPL season.
