Wellington: Four New Zealand players, including Kane Williamson and Tim Southee, have been given the green light by the New Zealand Cricket Board to join their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) teams without taking part in the limited-overs home series against Sri Lanka. In fact, the quartet of star Kiwi batsman Kane Williamson (Gujarat Titans), veteran bowler Tim Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders), dashing batsman Devon Conway and dashing all-rounder Mitchell Santner (both Chennai Super Kings) will start against Sri Lanka on Friday in the second and final match. After the test, he will be relieved of the responsibility of the national team.

After the conclusion of the current two-match Test series, New Zealand will play a three-match ODI and an equal number of T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka. The IPL will begin on March 31 with a match between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad. In Williamson’s absence, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has named Tom Latham as the captain for the ODI series. Mark Chapman, Ben Lister and Henry Nicholls will join the squad ahead of the second ODI at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on March 28. Tom Blundell and Will Young are back in the limited overs squad. Chad Bowes and Ben Lister are the new faces in the team.
