After ‘Impact Player’ Venkatesh Iyer’s inning of 83 runs in 40 balls, Rinku Singh’s five sixes in the last five balls helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 here on Sunday in a very exciting match. Defeated Gujarat Titans by three wickets. Rinku hit six sixes and a four during his unbeaten 48 off 21 balls.
Defending champion Gujarat, batting first, scored 204 runs for four wickets. KKR registered its second consecutive win by scoring 207 runs for seven wickets. KKR needed 29 runs to win the last over. Umesh Yadav (five not out) took a single off Yash Dayal’s first ball and gave strike to Rinku and the left-hander hit five consecutive sixes to give the team a memorable victory.
Dayal spent 69 runs in his four overs without any success. Apart from hitting eight fours and five sixes in his innings, Iyer shared a 55-ball 100-run partnership with captain Nitish Rana (45). Rana hit four fours and three sixes in his 29-ball innings.
After both of them returned to the pavilion, Rashid made Gujarat a strong hold on the match by dismissing Andre Russell (one run), Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur on the first three balls of the 17th over of the innings. But Rinku’s incredible batting snatched the victory from the jaws of Gujarat. This is Gujarat’s first defeat in three matches.
