Match reversed in Mark Wood’s over
Chasing a mammoth target of 194, Delhi got off to a brisk start by Prithvi and skipper David Warner. But the trend of the match changed in the fifth. The team had scored 41 runs in 4.2 overs, but on the third and fourth ball of his second over, Prithvi Shaw (12) and Mitchell Marsh (0) were clean bowled by English pacer Mark Wood, who completely pushed them on the back foot. Here Delhi missed its regular captain Rishabh Pant. Sarfaraz Khan got off cheaply. Even Ravman Powell could not do anything special. Riley Rousseau was looking in good touch, but Ravi Bishnoi broke the last hope by dismissing him. By the time David Warner was dismissed in the 16th over, the match had gone far out of Delhi’s grip.
Caribbean power showed power
Lucknow’s Caribbean opener Kyle Meyers took full advantage of the lifeline he got on 14, scoring a half-century of 73 runs (two fours and seven sixes), helping Lucknow Supergiants overcome a slow start to post a mammoth score of 193 runs. Meyers completed his half-century in 28 balls by hitting a six off chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav (1/35) in the ninth over. There was a 79-run partnership for the second wicket between Deepak Hooda (17 runs) and Meyers. Apart from Meyers, West Indian Nicholas Pooran contributed 36 runs while in the end Ayush Badoni added 18 runs in seven balls.
Impact player’s show
Lucknow’s innings had a total of 16 sixes and just five fours. After the dismissal of Ayush Badoni, ‘impact player’ Krishnappa Gautam was brought on to play the last ball, who hit it for a six. The Lucknow team lost two wickets in the last five overs and added 66 runs. Krunal Pandya remained unbeaten after scoring 15 runs.
