As per the IPL Code of Conduct, there is a fixed penalty for different levels of offences. The match referee, after conferring with the on-field umpires, deemed Kohli and Gambhir to have breached Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The IPL playing conditions further state that “the person making the report shall determine where the threshold of seriousness of conduct is”. He was fined 100% of his match fee. Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who was also found to have breached Article 2.21, was fined 50% of his match fee, as his offense was deemed a Level 1 offence.
social media discussion who will fill the money
Although people on social media are more curious about who will pay the amount of this fine? Will Kohli, Gambhir and Naver pay the money? If so, how much money will have to be paid? The interesting thing here is that unlike international matches, IPL match fees are not predetermined. It depends on various factors such as the player’s auction price, his actual salary in case he is retained (like Kohli) and the number of matches the franchise plays in a season.
Do you know how Virat Kohli has replied to Gautam Gambhir?
These facts are going viral on social media
For example Kohli gets Rs 15 crore from RCB. If we take into account the guaranteed 14 matches (each franchise has to play at least 14 matches in a season), the match fee would be around Rs 1.07 crore. If RCB makes it to the playoffs, the amount will be less as the number of matches increases.
Kohli will not give a single penny
The thing to note here is that whatever the amount of the fine, Kohli will not pay it. An RCB source told Cricbuzz – The players’ job is to play and we respect that. As a great culture, we do not deduct the fine from their salary. This means that only RCB will pay Kohli’s fine. It is not just for Kohli. The franchise will pay the fine for its players in the entire league.
Only fighting is left! Why Kohli-Gambhir don’t get along?
What will happen to Gambhir and Naveen?
Interestingly, RCB is not the only franchise to do so. Actually, this is a common practice among most of the teams in IPL. They are the ones who pay the fine instead of deducting it from the salary of the players. However, there are some teams which collect slow over-rate fines in addition to the code violations committed by their players. On the other hand, what about Gambhir? The former India opener is the mentor of LSG. Unlike Kohli or Naveen, he did not attend the auction. The interesting thing is that here also the franchisee will pay the fine amount of both the players.
