The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin from March 22 and despite the Lok Sabha elections, it will be held entirely in the country. IPL President Arun Dhumal gave this information to ‘PTI-Bhasha’. The general elections are likely to be held in April and May and that is why the schedule for the 17th season of IPL has not been released yet.
Dhumal told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that initially only the schedule of the first 15 days of this league will be announced. The schedule of the remaining matches will be announced after the announcement of the general election dates. The Lok Sabha election dates are likely to be announced early next month.
Dhumal said, “We are planning to start the tournament from March 22. We are working closely with government agencies. We will be the first to release the initial schedule. The entire tournament will be held in India.” Earlier in 2009, during the general elections, the entire season of IPL was organized in South Africa, while in 2014, some of its matches were organized in UAE.
After this, during the 2019 general elections, this league was organized entirely in the country. In view of the T20 World Cup to be held in June, the IPL final can be held on May 26. The Indian team will start its campaign in the T20 World Cup against Ireland in New York on June 5. This tournament will start on June 1 with the match between America and Canada.
Usually the opening match of the IPL is between the previous year’s winner and the runner-up. In such a situation, its opening match is likely to be played between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.
