Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the finest captains a team could ever ask for and finding someone to replace him will be an uphill task for the CSK management. However, former CSK batsman Ambati Rayudu has expressed his opinion on which player can be the future captain of the team.
After CSK bought England Test captain Ben Stokes in the 2022 mini-auction, there was a lot of speculation that he might replace Dhoni as the skipper. However, Rayudu has named opener Ruturaj Gaikwad as the perfect replacement for the legendary wicketkeeper.
Ambati Rayudu told Ruturaj Gaikwad to be the next captain of CSK
Talking to Behindwoods TV, Rayudu said, ‘Talking about the future, I think Ruturaj has a good chance. He has leadership qualities. So if Mahi bhai grooms him for a year or more, he can lead the team for 7-8 or even 10 years. He has good relations with Mahi Bhai and Fleming. He is calm, down-to-earth and extremely talented.
He further said, ‘India can make the best use of them. I don’t think they are at the moment. He should play for India in every format. Gaikwad had a stellar performance with the bat in IPL 2023 for CSK. He scored 590 runs in 16 matches with the help of one century and 14 half-centuries.
Will captain India in the Asian Games
CSK opener Rituraj Gaikwad has been appointed as the captain of Team India that will participate in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. With the Asian Games coinciding with the ODI World Cup, the BCCI has named a second-string Indian team for the continental event. The men’s cricket competition will be held from 28 September to 8 October which will be played in T20 format.
Currently, the 26-year-old batsman is with the India Test team, which is playing against the West Indies in the two-match Test series. He has also been named in the ODI series starting July 27.
