beckenhamAustralia captain Pat Cummins believes that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has ended international cricket’s monopoly on players’ time and said that in future it will be a challenge to convince players to value the national team over franchise cricket. Cummins said the IPL had changed the landscape of cricket a decade ago and as such he seemed to agree with Trent Boult’s decision to turn down a contract with New Zealand Cricket to play in T20 leagues around the world.
Before the final of the World Test Championship against India at The Oval from June 7, Cummins told the Sydney Morning Herald, “For some time it seemed that it was going to happen and now it is happening.” Said, “International cricket is no longer the monopoly of players’ time as it used to be.” IPL changed it a decade ago, but now more and more players are joining it and so I think we have to be proactive about it.
