Kochi. Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has explained how he got the leadership opportunity in 2021 and also shared details about his journey with the franchise. Rajasthan Royals, under the leadership of Sanju Samson, reached the final in the 2022 season. Where they had to face defeat against Gujarat Titans.

Samson said in Star Sports’ ‘Star Nahi Door’ program that I think this happened before this season. I think we were playing in Dubai, and RR owner Manoj Badale came to me and asked if I was ready to lead the team. To which I said that I am ready.

Samson has been associated with the Royals since 2013. He was with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) team in 2016 and 2017 before moving back to the Royals.

Samson also stressed his desire to stand out through his batting style and performances. He revealed a change in mindset to adopt a more aggressive approach, aiming to hit power strokes from the start of his innings.

Samson said that I think when you are playing cricket in the best country in the world, I think the number of players playing and the amount of talent we have. Keeping that in mind, I knew that a boy from Kerala, if he wanted to come and cement his place in the national team, he would have to do something special, so I always wanted to be special.

I always wanted to be different in the way I batted. I just wanted to create my own style of batting and it doesn’t matter if it was the first ball, I just wanted to go out there and hit sixes. So, my mindset changed and I just wanted to do something different like why do we have to wait for 10 balls to hit a six?

Rajasthan Royals will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24.
