Mumbai Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes Mumbai Indians and India captain Rohit Sharma should take a break from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for some time and prepare for the final league matches and the World Test Championship (WTC) final that follows. Should come back fresh.

“I would like to see some changes in the (Mumbai Indians) batting order,” Gavaskar told Star Spotters after Mumbai’s 55-run defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans on Tuesday. I would also say that Rohit should probably take a break for some time and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship (final). He should come back again for the last few matches, but for now he needs some rest.

Rohit could only score two runs in eight balls against Gujarat. Rohit has had a mixed season as a batsman where he has managed only 181 runs at a strike rate of 135. Mumbai are seventh in the points table after seven matches with just four points. Gavaskar says that it is almost impossible for Mumbai to reach the playoffs, so Rohit should take a break.

Gavaskar said, it would be a miracle for Mumbai to reach the playoffs. He can reach the fourth position in the points table after the league stage, but for that he will have to play very well with the ball and the bat. That said, he looks a bit worried. Maybe he is thinking about the WTC (final), I don’t know.

I believe he needs a break at this stage. He should return for the last three or four matches so that he is in shape for the World Test Championship final. The IPL ends on May 28, while the WTC final begins on June 7 at The Oval ground in London, where India and Australia will face- Will be in front.

So far this year, Rohit has played four Tests against Australia after playing six consecutive ODIs against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. He missed the first ODI against Australia due to family commitments, but has been playing consistent cricket since captaining India in the second and third ODIs.

Mumbai’s next match is against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.
