Dublin. Ireland have named all-rounder Fionn Hand and leg-spinner Gareth Delany in their 15-man squad for the three-match T20I series against India, starting August 18 in Malahide.
Fionn Hand missed out on selection in Ireland’s squad for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, while Delany is returning from injury sustained during the Men’s ODI World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe in June.
Ireland men’s national selector Andrew White said, “Giving players opportunities affects the series as well, so I expect all 15 players named in the India series squad to fit into some role. Exciting, but as we showed last year, we have the talent and confidence to match them on the field of play and we have high hopes for another tightly contested series.”
Three T20 matches between India and Ireland will be played in Malahide on 18, 20 and 23 August. The series is Ireland’s first bilateral T20 series since securing 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup qualification.
The series is being considered as part of strategic planning for both the teams for the mega tournament to be held in West Indies and USA in June 2024.
India and Ireland played a two-match T20I series in June 2022, with Team India winning the series 2–0, although India were given a tough fight by the hosts.
During the upcoming tour, India will be captained by fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who will return to international cricket after a long injury break.
Ireland squad: Paul Stirling (c), Andrew Balbirnie, Mark Adair, Ross Adair, Curtis Camper, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Fionn Hand, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Theo van Voorkom, Ben White, Craig Young.
