Isha Singh won gold and silver in 25 meter pistol, eyes on Paris Olympics

Hangzhou. Isha Singh, who started shooting at the age of 9 after visiting a range in her hometown Hyderabad, has made winning a medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou and qualifying for the 2024 Olympics among her main goals for this year. Was determined as one.

On Wednesday, she fulfilled her first dream of winning an Asian Games medal by winning gold and silver medals in the women’s 25m pistol team and individual events respectively at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Center here.

Isha won a silver medal for India in the individual event after helping the country win a gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event at the Asian Games along with teammates Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan.

Finishing fifth among the six-shooters in the individual event after the rapid round in which she could only score 294 points, while Manu shot an impressive 296 and maintained the lead with 590-28x, Isha performed brilliantly. When it mattered because she finished second. ,

Isha, who qualified for the finals in the individual event with veteran Manu, scored 34 points to finish second behind China’s Rui Liu, who improved on her previous score and set a new Asian Games record with a total of 38 points. Korea’s Jin Yang won the bronze medal with 29 points after winning the shoot-off with China’s Sixuan Feng. India’s Manu Bhaker missed out on a medal and finished fifth.

Isha said after winning two medals on Wednesday, “I am very grateful and proud of myself for the way I performed. I don’t think I can explain in words what I am feeling right now because “Emotions are bursting. I’m so happy.” ,

18-year-old Isha, who trains at Olympian Gagan Narang’s Gun for Glory Academy in Hyderabad, literally won the glory on Wednesday by winning two medals, just like compatriot Punjab rifle shooter Sift Kaur Samra, who won the women’s 50m rifle Won gold medal in 3-position. Silver in individual and team competition with world record.

In the women’s 25m pistol individual event, Isha was placed joint second after the precision round, while Manu led with a throw of 294-14x. Isha’s score was 292-9x, which was equal to China’s Feng Sixuan. She came in with 294 in the rapid section and stood fifth with a score of 586-17x.

But the final was a completely different story as Isha kept going from strength to strength while Manu lost her way and finished fifth.

In the first competitive stage, Isha scored 10 points and moved into joint third place with China’s Sixuan Feng. Another Chinese Rui Liu is in the lead with 13 points while Korea’s Jin Yang is in second place with 11 points. Manu managed to score 9 in this phase and slipped to fifth place.

Competitors from Taipei and Singapore were eliminated, one shooter from Iran was eliminated, while Rui Liu, Isha and Jin Yang retained their top three positions.

Manu was eliminated in the next round with 16 points. The contest between Korea’s Yang and China’s Feng Sixhuan was a tie and the Korean came out on top in the shoot-off, opening a tie with Isha for the second spot. However, the Indian shooter maintained his composure and eventually finished with a silver medal.

The young shooter from Hyderabad said that she made some technical mistakes which she should have avoided. “There were some technical things I should have done (better) but overall I think I did pretty well.”

Having achieved her first dream, Isha will now look forward to achieving her next goal – the Paris Olympic Games. For this he or any other pistol shooter will have to get a quota place for India. This is now the 18-year-old’s next target.(IANS)
