The pair of Rhythm Sangwan and Ujjwal gave India its first gold medal in the ISSF World Cup by defeating the Armenian pair of Elmira Karapayyan and Benik Khalghatyan 17-7 in the final of the 10m air pistol mixed team event here on Saturday. Earlier, the pair of Arjun Babuta and Sonam Uttam Maskar won the silver medal in the 10 meter air rifle mixed team event. Indian shooters have so far won one gold and two silver medals. Debut shooter Anuradha Devi opened India’s account by winning the silver medal in the women’s 10 meter air pistol event, defeating Rio Olympic champion Anna Korakakki. This is Rhythm’s second consecutive World Cup mixed team gold medal.
The pair of Rhythm and Ujjwal had qualified for the finals by finishing second, one point behind the Armenian pair with 580 points. The pair of Arjun and Sonam had topped the qualification but finished second in the final, behind Britain’s Dean Bell and Sioned McIntosh. Anuradha (33 years) made it to the finals from the eighth and last qualifying position. He finished second in the Swapnil final on Friday. Anuradha’s feat gave India its first (first of six) medal at the ISSF World Cup stage of the Olympic year. Earlier, Sagar Dungi had also reached the final of men’s 10 meter air pistol event but he finished sixth.
