After India’s defeat to Australia in the World Test Championship final, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his unwavering support to the team and lauded their tireless efforts during the 2021-23 cycle. Australia registered a resounding 209-run win on the fifth day of the thrilling encounter at The Oval on Sunday. Chasing a target of 444, India were bowled out for 234 in the second innings, with the last seven wickets falling for just 70 runs.
Ashwin took to Twitter to congratulate Australia for winning the WTC title and appreciated the efforts of the Indian team.
It was disappointing for us to end the match like this, nevertheless, it was a great effort over two years.
Significantly, Ashwin, the top-order Test bowler who took 474 wickets in 92 matches at a strike-rate of 51.8, was left out of the match.
Former cricketers from both countries have strongly criticized the Indian team due to Ashwin’s exclusion from the playing XI.
