Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly and took six wickets for 45 runs on the second day of the second Test on Saturday and gave India a significant lead of 143 runs by bowling out England for 253 runs in the first innings. In its second innings, India has scored 28 runs in five overs without losing any wicket and its total lead has become 171 runs.

Earlier in the morning, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (209) was successful in scoring a double century while India was all out after scoring 396 runs in the first innings in the first session. Jaiswal converted his overnight score of 179 not out into his first double century in Tests, although India missed reaching 400 by only four runs.

Playing in his sixth Test match, Jaiswal mixed caution and aggression in equal amounts and stood tall even when his teammates were falling at the other end. He became the third youngest Indian batsman to score a double century in Test cricket by hitting a six and a four off debutant England spinner Shoaib Bashir in the 102nd over.

He scored an incredible career best of 209 runs off 290 balls with the help of 19 fours and seven sixes, before being dismissed by veteran fast bowler James Anderson. But it was a morning in which India’s last four wickets fell for just 32 runs. Anderson took three wickets while Bashir and Rehan Ahmed also took three wickets each.
