England bowler James Anderson on Friday became the oldest fast bowler to play a Test match on Indian soil at the age of 41 years and 187 days during the second Test against India at the YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. As soon as James Anderson entered the field, he broke the record that had been standing for 72 years in Test cricket. Indian cricket legend Lala Amarnath holds the title of the oldest fast bowler to play Test in India since 1952.
When Amarnath played his last Test match against Pakistan at Eden Gardens, he was 41 years and 92 days old. Along with Anderson and Amarnath, the list included names like Ray Lindwall, Shute Banerjee and Ghulam Gard, all of whom had made their mark before the changes in the cricket landscape in 1961. Anderson also became the 5th oldest player to play Test for India. Zimbabwean player John Tricos holds the record for playing most matches in 1993 at the age of 45 years 304 days.
