New Delhi. India’s fast bowling leader Jasprit Bumrah has become the first Indian fast bowler to top the ICC men’s Test bowling rankings. Bumrah moved to the top of the rankings for Test bowlers after taking nine wickets in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, which India won by 10 runs, in the latest rankings update on Wednesday.
Bumrah’s nine wickets, including a brilliant 6/45 in the first innings in Visakhapatnam, have helped him overtake Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada and compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin.
Bumrah is now the fourth bowler from his country to hold the number one position in the rankings for Test bowlers after Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Bishan Singh Bedi.
Bumrah, who was named player of the match after helping India level the five-match series with a 106-run win in Visakhapatnam, ended Ashwin’s 11-month-long reign at the helm. Bumrah now has 881 rating points.
After taking just three wickets in Visakhapatnam, Ashwin is now second in the bowlers’ rankings.
In the batting rankings, left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal climbed 37 places to 29th position after scoring a career-best 209 runs in the first innings, while right-handed batsman Shubman Gill climbed 14 places to a career-best 38th position. reached.
