Rajkot: India’s main fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may get rest from the fourth Test match against England to be played in Ranchi from February 23, while Lokesh Rahul may return to the team after recovering from quadriceps (thigh muscle) injury.
Bumrah is the bowler taking the most wickets in this five-match series. He has 17 wickets in his name in three matches. He single-handedly led the Indian team to victory in the second test match played in Visakhapatnam. India is currently leading 2-1 in this series.
A source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, the team will leave for Ranchi tomorrow and Bumrah is likely to get rest. He told that Rahul is close to achieving full fitness and there is a strong possibility of him joining the team. The decision to rest Bumrah is not surprising as he has bowled 80.5 overs in the first three Test matches.
To manage the workload of the bowlers, the Indian team rested Mohammed Siraj in the second Test match in Visakhapatnam. He made a comeback in the team in Rajkot Test. Siraj had taken four wickets in the first innings of this test. The Indian team had won this match by 434 runs. The Indian team is in a good position to win the series in Ranchi. If this does not happen, then the home team will be in great need of Bumrah’s services for the fifth and final Test starting from March 7 in Dharamshala.
