Ranchi: The final match of Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy-2023 between India and Japan will be played on Sunday. Both the teams met in the capital of Jharkhand on Saturday. Ranchi K Marang Gomke entered the title match by winning their respective semi-final matches at Jaipal Singh Munda Astroturf Hockey Stadium. In the first semi-final, Japan defeated China 2-1, while in the second semi-final, India defeated Korea 2-0. Now the bronze medal match will be played between China and Korea. Malaysia secured fifth place by defeating Thailand 1-0. The final and bronze medal match will be held on Sunday.

India reached the final by maintaining 2-0 lead

The Indian women’s hockey team made a great start in the match and took a 2-0 lead within the first half. The first goal for the host team was scored by Salima Tete in the form of a field goal in the 11th minute. After this, Vittal Vaishnavi Phalke doubled India’s lead in the match by converting the penalty corner into a goal in the 19th minute. There was a tough competition between the two teams in the second half, but neither of the teams could score a goal and India secured the ticket to the final by maintaining the lead of 2-0.

A total of six teams were participating in this tournament

Earlier in Semi-Final-1, Kana Urata scored the second goal for Japan in the 34th minute and Miyu Suzuki scored the second goal in the 44th minute. Tiantian Lou scored the only goal for China in the 11th minute. In the match for fifth place, Malaysia defeated Thailand 1-0. The only goal for Malaysia was scored by Nurmjaitul Syafi in the first minute. A total of six teams were participating in this tournament being played on the basis of round robin league stage. Apart from host India, these included teams from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. After the league stage, the top 4 teams in the points table qualified for the semi-finals. India is searching for its first title since 2016. The Indian team has won silver medals in 2013 and 2018.
