London. Fast bowler Jofra Archer will travel with the England squad as a reserve for the World Cup in India. Team chief selector Luke Wright has confirmed this.
Injured Jofra Archer has not been named in England’s final 15-player World Cup squad announced on Sunday. However, a big update in this matter is that he will be traveling with the team.
According to the ECB statement, “The best thing for Jofra is to travel with the team. Keep working with his rehabilitation. Be around the physio and the team. This way he will be able to work on his fitness and, most importantly, Will be with Baat’s team, which will help him make a comeback.”
Archer was part of the team that won the ODI World Cup against New Zealand at Lord’s in 2019, where he bowled a thrilling Super Over apart from being the highest wicket-taker for the team in the competition. He is currently working on his rehabilitation after the injury, since then his career has not been very good.
He made his international comeback for England on the tour of South Africa and Bangladesh earlier this year, apart from the South Africa T20 League. But, after recovering from persistent elbow and back injuries, he is facing difficulties again and again. This is the reason why his IPL 2023 tenure was terminated early.
England will begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This mega tournament of ten teams will conclude with the final to be held in Ahmedabad on October 5.
