Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup: India beats Korea 3-1 in classification match

India made a spectacular comeback after falling behind initially to defeat South Korea 3-1 in the 9th to 12th place classification match of the Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup.
In this match played on Thursday, Ropani Kumari (23rd minute), Mumtaz Khan (44th) and Annu (46th) scored goals for India. The only goal for Korea was scored by Jiyun Choi (19th). Korea dominated the first quarter and got the first penalty corner but could not take advantage of it. In the second quarter, both the teams tried to put pressure on each other.
Choi gave Korea the lead by scoring a penalty corner but Ropani also converted the penalty corner to give India an equaliser. Till the intermission both the teams were tied at 1-1. India dominated the third quarter and meanwhile, Mumtaz gave the team the lead by scoring a penalty corner goal. After this, Annu ensured India’s victory by scoring a field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
India still has a chance to finish ninth. They will face either Chile or the United States on Saturday in their final match of the tournament.
