New Delhi: Great Indian spinner Anil Kumble said that young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel has all the qualities to reach the heights that great captain and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni achieved in his career. Jurel made his Test debut during the third Test in Rajkot and played a valuable inning of 46 runs in 104 balls. India won that match by 434 runs. The 23-year-old keeper also gave a match-winning performance during the fourth Test in Ranchi. Speaking to GeoCinema, Kumble said that Jurel showed composure in his technique both in defense and attack.

“Dhruv Jurel definitely has all the makings to reach where MS (Dhoni) is in his career. He has shown his technical flair not only in defense but also when attacking. Even in that first innings, he was so confident, he “went back and then hit the big sixes,” Kumble said. Kumble said Jurel’s glovework has been exceptional, especially against fast bowlers and the only way is for the young wicketkeeper. “He (Jurrell) has been exceptional, especially with the fast bowlers… He will only improve.

This is only his second Test and I’m sure he will get better as he starts playing more. And this is a good sign for India. And to have him in the team is extraordinary,” he explained. Jurel’s contribution was important in the team’s victory in the fourth Test. His innings of 90 runs in the first innings and 76-run partnership with Kuldeep Yadav took India out of a difficult situation and limited England’s lead to just 46 runs.

Later, his 39* in the second innings and partnership with Shubman Gill helped India overcome the pressure of early wickets and chase down the tense target of 192 runs. He earned ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts in just his second Test. Jurel will also be in action during the fifth and final Test to be played in Dharamsala from March 7.
