Napier (Uttam Hindu News): New Zealand’s team has been announced for the T20 series against Bangladesh starting from December 27. Also, Kane Williamson has returned as captain.
Williamson last played a T20 match against India in November 2022 and has missed recent assignments in the format, including this year’s series in England, as he recovers from knee surgery. Apart from Williamson, Jimmy Neesham and Ben Sears have also returned to the T20 squad after missing the series against England.
Opening batsman Devon Conway was not considered for selection. He is on a rest period after a heavy workload this year. Michael Bracewell, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry and Henry Shipley are out due to injury. Left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult ruled himself out of selection for the series. Head coach Gary Stead said the series against Bangladesh is the beginning of the team’s preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in the West Indies and the United States from June 4-30 next year.
Stead will be joined by regular batting coach Luke Ronchi and Canterbury men’s development coach Brendan Donkers as bowling coach, with the group also receiving assistance from NZC High Performance Network coach Dean Brownlee.
