Kawasaki Ninja ZX 4R to be launched in India soon, teaser released

New Delhi : Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki launched the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R in America, Asia and Australia in January this year. This is a 399 cc sports bike. Now the news is that Kawasaki Motor is all set to launch it in the Indian bike market. There is also news that Kawasaki Motor India has released some interesting teasers on its social media handles, which hints at a new four-cylinder offering soon. Japanese motorcycle maker Kawasaki retails a range of in-line four-cylinder motorcycles in India. This could be his cheapest bike ever and possibly his favorite motorcycle of all time, as it is likely to be the Kawasaki ZX-4R Supersport.
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R
The specialty of this bike is that it is the only modern road sports bike with an in-line four-cylinder engine with 399 cm displacement. Hence it is a very low volume but multicylinder fractionation engine. The engine is front mounted and powered by a multipoint indirect electronic injection system with 4 injectors per cylinder with 16-valve DOHC distribution. It generates around 57 kW (77 hp), 42 Nm torque and can reach up to 15,000 rpm. With the help of air box, the power can be increased up to 80 HP.
The Kawasaki ZXR400 was discontinued in 1989
The Kawasaki ZX-4R is already on sale in the international market and is based on the Ninja range, which draws power from a four-cylinder heart instead of a parallel-twin in a sub-400cc space. The new offering is the successor to the Kawasaki ZXR400, which was introduced in 1989 and saw a 300cc four-cylinder heart for some serious power. The popularity of motorcycles in the larger 600-1,000 cc segment along with stricter emission norms globally has led to the discontinuation of the ZXR400 in recent years.
Why is the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R coming in a new avatar?
Interestingly, stricter emission norms, regulations and taxation in certain markets also prompted Kawasaki to bring back the 399cc four-cylinder motor in an all-new avatar. On the ZX-4R, the newly developed engine is a liquid-cooled, inline-4 with DOHC setup. The motor generates 78 bhp at 15,000 rpm and 37.6 Nm of peak torque at 12,500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and gets an assist and slipper clutch and a quickshifter.

The Kawasaki ZX-4R borrows a lot from the Ninja 400 and other Ninja models. These include split LED headlamps, sporty riding posture, Showa-sourced USD front forks and preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, and disc brakes at either end with a dual-disc setup at the front with radial calipers and a single disc at either end. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod in 120/70 section front and 160/60 section rear tyres.

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R gets four riding modes Sport, Road, Rain and Rider (customizable), which can be controlled using the 4.3-inch TFT screen. It gets Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation and notification updates.
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R Price
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R is a niche offering and it would be a bold move for Kawasaki India to bring a small-capacity four-cylinder motorcycle to the Indian market. The bike is likely to arrive in India as a completely built unit (CBU), whose prices should command a hefty premium between Rs 7-8 lakh (ex-showroom). That said, there will be a handful of enthusiasts who will enjoy the in-line four motor running on the ZX-4R at that price. However, Kawasaki India is yet to officially announce the details and we expect the same in the coming days.
